Good fishing can be had in the latter part of the day.

Current Conditions

This is that time of year on the Eagle where time of day means everyting. Although conditions may seem ideal to the angler, the fish on this river are very particular about when they will want to feed. On this particular day, I got to the river around noon, wanting to give the water plenty of time to warm up. I fished hard all afternoon with the occasional hook up, but it wasn't until around 4pm that things started to happen and the fish began to feed. Once the conditions were "right" for the fish, I was getting hook ups on every other cast. Nymphing was the most productive technique using a double or tripple fly rig starting with a Stone, and trailing that with a small midge or BWO pattern. Olive was the color de jour, as most of the trout caught were on an olive mayfly pattern. So the long of the short of it, come late and plan on staying late.
