Kyle Murphy - Trout's Fly Fishing
Overview
Fishing on the Big Thompson is excellent. Many browns are moving up the canyon seeking the habitat conducive to their annual spawning ritual. As a result fish are keying in on the egg which can result as a great attractor pattern to a nymph rig. With the skinny water concentrate on deep pools as well as deep rolling riffles, where many fish will stack up seeking oxygen and food. Use scuds, sow bugs, or eggs as a point fly on your nymph rig as this will aid in knowing where your flies are in the water column. One can do well with BWO's in the emergent and dun stage so nymphing is not exclusive.
